These parts of Oracle BI EE (ie, analytics, agents, dashboards, and so on) are sometimes referred to as presentation services.
You use the Oracle BI presentation catalog to store objects such as analyses, dashboards, and KPIs that you and other users create using Oracle BI EE.
Users have their own folder (My Folders) where they can store their creations. You can access items in a private folder and save content to that folder. Users can add subfolders to their personal folders to organize their content in a way that makes the most sense for them.
Objects can also be stored in shared folders where other users or groups can access the objects. A combination of business logic security, list object security, and data level security determines who can view data and objects, edit objects, and delete objects from the list. Your administrator creates and maintains the catalog’s shared folder structure.

To access Oracle BI EE, you use the URL, user ID, and password provided by your organization. To track logged-in sessions, ensure that your web browser is set to accept cookies.
If you are already logged in using single sign-on (SSO), you may not be prompted to enter values in all the fields on the login page.
After logging in to Oracle BI EE, you will be presented with one of the following pages depending on what is configured for you:

This page is your starting point for working with Oracle BI EE. Analytics, dashboards, and other things you access frequently can be found on the home page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, enter the item name in the search box at the top of the page. Or click the catalog link to explore all available content. As you work, you can use the global header and home page as the primary ways to navigate Oracle BI EE:
After you access the starting point of a task, the interface presents you with a page, dialog, or editor that you use to perform the task.
Do not use the browser’s back button to navigate to Oracle BI EE, there are no other navigation methods. The browser’s back button may not maintain the state of the dashboard once it is returned. Breadcrumbing is the recommended navigation approach. Check out the breadcrumbs.
The home page is divided into sections that allow you to start a specific task or find an item. This includes sections that allow you to access items you’ve recently viewed, created, or updated (for example, Recent and Favorites) and items that are frequently accessed by users assigned to groups you belong to.

Depending on what is configured as your start page, you may be presented with a home page when you log in to Oracle BI EE.

The new home page provides an easy way to work with Data Visualization (TV) programs, analytics and dashboards.
The new home page includes a variety of functions, including BI Ask, which lets you discover, view, or create visualizations, analytics, and dashboards.

You can switch to the OBI Classic page from the new home page by clicking on Open OBI Classic. Use the OBI Classic page to create other objects such as alerts, triggers, and BIP reports.
Data sources contain the data you use to create analyzes and DV projects. A data source can be an object region or a data set. You can create data sets by uploading an Excel file or creating a connection to Oracle BI Applications or a database. See Workflow for Adding Data Sources.
The view area provides a variety of categories to help you quickly find the analytics, dashboards, and DV projects stored in the table. Use My Folder or Shared Folders to browse the list. Or click Favorites, Recents, DV Projects, Dashboards, or Analytics category to quickly find your most recently viewed content or specific content by category.
You can use keywords to search for items in the list. To see a list of items that match your search criteria, type a search term in the Find Content or Display field and click a row with a magnifying glass icon (located above the drop-down window in the Search Results section). BI Ask can be used to quickly combine existing data objects into an analysis. To see a list of objects that match your search criteria, type a search term in the Find Content or Visualization field and click a row with the object icon (Visualize data using the drop-down window section) to start building your visualization. . Use BI Ask to enter column names in the search field, select them, and quickly view a visualization containing those columns. This functionality can be used to perform visualizations in advance without creating a project first.
An asterisk (*) can be used as a wildcard when searching. For example, *forecast can be specified to find all items containing the word “forecast”. However, using two wildcards to further restrict the search returns no results (for example, *predict*).
When you search, use meaningful keywords. Searching with key words like by, the, in it will not return any results. For example, if you want to enter the search field to find two projects, “Predicted Monthly Sales by Product Type” and “Predicted Monthly Sales by Product Name,” it will return no results.
If you use a comma in your search criteria, the search will return no results. For example, if you want to search for quarterly sales equal to $665,399, enter 665,399 in the search field, and then no results are returned. However, entering 655399 will return the results.
Business Intelligence Tools You Need To Know
If you want to search the date attribute, you search using the year-month-date format. Searching with the month/date/year format (for example, 8/6/2016) will not produce any direct matches. Instead, your search results contain entries between 8 and 2016.
When you enter criteria in the search field, what is displayed in the drop-down list of suggestions will vary depending on your language setting. For example, if you are entering sales using the English language, the drop-down list of suggestions will contain the items Sales and Sales. However, if you are using a non-English language such as Korean and the category is Sales, the drop-down list will only contain items named Sale, and items such as Sale will not be included in the drop-down list. For non-English languages, Oracle recommends searching using stem words rather than whole words when necessary. For example, searching for sales returns items that contain sales and sales rather than searching for sales. Or search custom to see a list of results containing custom, customer, and customers.

For example, you can use a global topic to start a new task, search the Oracle BI presentation catalog, access product documentation, or view other material without returning to the home page. The global header also includes a homepage link so you can access the homepage from other pages.
What you see in the global header is determined by privileges. Your administrator can customize the global header by changing the order in which links are displayed or by adding links to internal or external locations such as Google or the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
